Activities in St. Niklaus
Above St. Niklaus, accessible by cable car, on the Alpe Jungen, there is a small lake with a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains. Jungen is also the starting point for the high-altitude hike Jungen - Moosalp.
The mountain guide museum in the Meier Tower, the oldest surviving building in the Nikolai Valley, tells the story of the Alps - and in particular of the Zaniglas mountain guide pioneers, who have been at the forefront since 1850 and have had a decisive influence on mountain guiding in various areas worldwide. Zaniglas mountain pioneers caused a sensation worldwide with their first ascents. The unique mountain guide museum in the Meier Tower, in the heart of St. Niklaus, takes you back to the time of these Alpine pioneers. You can experience the life and work of mountain guides past and present at first hand.
The local history museum in St. Niklaus is attached to the Meier Tower. It was created under the direction of the Pro Nikolai Foundation and houses old objects from the crafts, agriculture and household of the Zaniglas ancestors.
From Grächen, you hike along a beautiful forest path along the Suonen (water channels), which still bring the glacier water to the meadows and fields of Grächen today, and reach the glacier tongue of the Ried Glacier in just under 1 1/2 hours. There you can enjoy the fantastic atmosphere and marvel at the glacier moraine.
The Bodierhütte on the Riedgletscher is the starting point for many alpinists on the Europaweg or the Monte Rosa tour.
In der Sommer- sowie Wintersaison erreicht ihr die Hannigalp bequem mit der einzigartigen Märchen-Gondelbahn. Für unsere aktiven Gäste kann die Hannigalp aber auch über den Sommer- bzw. Winterwanderweg erreicht werden. Oben angekommen wartet ein atemberaubendes Panorama auf die umliegende Bergwelt - wie auf das Matterhorn.
In the summer and winter season, you can reach the Hannigalp comfortably with the unique fairytale gondola lift. For our active guests, the Hannigalp can also be reached via the summer or winter hiking trail. Once at the top, a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding mountains awaits - like the Matterhorn.
During the summer and winter season, the Hannigalp family mountain restaurant provides excellent food and delicious treats for young and old.
